Cinderella

Before going to sleep last night
I unclipped my gold belt, and stepped out of
the azureblue dress
shot through with silver, maroon, dark gold,
leaving the earrings for last

and then
climbed straight into bed
Without a shower

So that in the morning, when I woke in sleeping shorts
and a faded high-school jersey,
last night’s perfume would still be draped
lightly like a
silk scarf

wrapping memories warm
against my neck
